We are neighbours in and around South Hill Park, London NW3, working to improve the biodiversity of our area.
Our neighbourhood is one of the biodiversity corridors designated by the Hampstead Neighbourhood Plan.
We begin with hedgehogs. Why?
Since 2000 rural hedgehog numbers have dropped 5%. In cities, that’s 33%. In London their numbers have dropped 25% just in the last 8 years.
Foraging hedgehogs roam about 1.8km a night, and hole up by day in temporary nests. Urban threats to them are mostly human – and unintended.

Have you seen a hedgehog in our area in the last 5 years? Let us know and we will mark it on our sightings map.
Can hedgehogs pass through our biodiversity corridor? We are surveying our neighbourhood to find out.
Please answer our online questionnaire so we can assess whether hedgehogs can move freely through our area.
